Hardwood Floor Refinishing

Your hardwood floors begin with top-quality wood, but they get attention with the details of the finish. If it’s time to refinish your existing hardwood floors, we can perfectly match the original finish (where adjacent flooring is a consideration) or give you a whole new look. We can also match any color furniture or paint to create the perfect stain color for your hardwood floors, new or old.

Finish Choices

When you meet with one of our expert technicians, you’ll discuss which base type you’d like for your hardwood floor finish, depending on your lifestyle and maintenance preferences. Most of our clients choose from either:

Water-Based Polyurethane:

  • Clear color that may yellow with age
  • Durable
  • Dries in several hours
  • Hardness can show scratches more readily
  • Some VOC-free options available

Or

Oil-Based Polyurethane:

  • Most popular option
  • Furniture finish look
  • Amber color that may deepen with age
  • Elasticity endures traffic and pet scratches well
  • Dries in about eight hours
  • Emits VOCs, requiring that residents stay offsite until dry

Other oil-based finishes include plant-based Tung oil, which hardens and preserves wood floors, and all-natural Monocoat floor finishes, which are plant-based and VOC-free.

Gloss Type

Almost all of the hardwood floor refinishing we do uses a particular level of gloss. The three levels are satin, semi-gloss and high-gloss. There are a few companies that offer a matte finish for their product, which provides minimal shine for those who want a more rustic look for their hardwood floors. We’ll help you decide on the best gloss level for the look you want to achieve.

Custom Finishing Techniques

Our craftsmen can capture the old rustic appearance of a well-loved, artisan floor through nostalgic processes like hand-scraping or hand-hewn techniques. These custom handcrafted products can deliver a chiseled edge or a textured surface that is unique to any other flooring. Other custom techniques include:

  • Distressing
  • Wire brushing
  • Square pegs
  • Custom pattern panels, such as Herringbone, Monticello, Marie Antoinette, Versailles and Bordeaux
